NEW YORK STATE ACCREDITATION

As one of Onondaga County's more progressive law enforcement agencies, the Camillus Police Department received its New York State Accreditation in 1998 and was reaccredited in 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018. The Camillus Police Department sought and received reaccreditation in 2023.

Accreditation emphasizes a voluntary, self-motivated approach for police departments to achieve and maintain high-quality administrative and operational guidelines through evaluations of established standards by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

The New York State Accreditation program became operational in 1989 and has four principle goals:

To increase the effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement agencies utilizing existing personnel, equipment and facilities to the extent possible;

To promote increased cooperation and coordination among law enforcement agencies and other agencies of the criminal justice services;

To ensure the appropriate training of law enforcement personnel

To promote public confidence.
